How to make the most out of your career fair

A career fair is an excellent opportunity to network with companies and people alike, speak to potential employers, get loads of information from workshops and panel discussions, and even get career advice. But receiving such a large amount of information in such a short time can make the overall experience quite overwhelming. Below are some tips to get the most out of a career fair.

1. Prior research

Do research on the companies, speakers, and panelists coming. Make a shortlist of the sessions you plan to attend. This will help optimize your time at the career fair.

2. Career pitch

Have ready a practiced 30-60 second talk that acts as a summary of your skills, career experience, interests, and goals.

3. Show knowledge and enthusiasm

Ask questions to panelists, speakers, and exhibitors. Convey your knowledge and enthusiasm through these questions.

4. Resume and business cards

A career fair is an excellent avenue to meet potential employers. Bring copies of resume, business cards to give to the people you speak to.

5. Network

Network, network, network! This is an excellent opportunity to do so. Talk to the people sharing your interests. Collect business cards or contact info.

6. Follow up

After the career fair, don’t forget to follow up with the people you met. Try to connect with them on LinkedIn.
